Formed in 2010, Novo Winds is a non-profit community band backed by Toa Payoh South Community Club that is dedicated to promoting musical development in its members. Novo means “anew, afresh and from the beginning” in Latin and serves as the band’s guiding principle as they incorporate new performance concepts and musical directions in order to reach out to a wider audience. Under the musical direction of Joseph Teo, Novo Winds presented their new concert series in Concert in 2018, which was well received by audiences. Novo Winds has participated in several community performances, including an overseas charity concert jointly presented by Novo Winds and Sky Winds of Malaysia in 2016. Earlier this year, they embarked on a new outreach programme and mentored young musicians from Bendemeer Secondary School, Ngee Ann Secondary School, and St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School. Novo Winds has previously performed as part of Beautiful Sunday (2016, 2017, 2018). The band also performed at Cool Classics 2018 and at 2019 inaugural Band Weekend.
